Believe boat was built in 1981, but will check. (That would place her in the Mid 50s numbering.) I have a comprehensive listing with pictures and work done and what needs doing etc … which I could send to anyone interested . I think it would be accurate to describe the boat as basically sound but needing restoration. She remains on the hard in Testers boat yard (Oare Creek – Faversham) and is currently accessible. 1972 21ft Clinker built Finesse 21, Iroko on Oak, built by Alan Platt of Thundersley in Essex. Long cast keel with pivoting steel centreplate. Yanmar 10GM single cylinder diesel. Standard Horizon radio linked to Garmin GPS. Nominally 4 berth (!) but I reckon you’d need to be very friendly to sleep more than 2. New sails by the previous owner about 9 years ago. New steel centreplate and marine steel pivot by me about 7 years ago. New engine mounts 3 years ago. Afloat Sovereign Harbour Eastbourne, berth paid till May 2023. Lines lead back to the cockpit for single handing, which is mainly what I’ve done. Heavy and stable and an excellent sailor. I motor sailed back from Chichester Marina to Brighton earlier this year, 40 Nm in 8 hours (I confess I hit all the tides exactly right!) She’s been lifted out, antifouled, new anodes fitted and engine service every winter.
Now the bad stuff. She needs considerable work topsides. The hull and all the sailing gear are fine, but the cabin/deck joints are letting in water, and as I was getting ready for lift out last week I discovered that one of the 2 cross beams supporting the mast tabernacle is cracking. I’ve propped it solidly down onto the keel to avoid further damage and have arranged to have the mast unstepped.
She is therefore sold as seen as a project boat which when restored is a lovely capable classic small yacht. Contact: joe.fairclough6@googlemail.com
